BFT Access Control Installation: The McKinney Owner’s Guide

BFT access control installation in McKinney typically runs $450 to $1,200 installed, depending on which BFT receiver, keypad, or controller your gate needs and whether we’re replacing a failed board or building out a new entry system from scratch. We stock BFT-compatible receivers, radio cards, keypads, and control boards on our service trucks, so most access control jobs are completed in a single visit. Most McKinney homeowners discover the problem the same way: the remote that worked last week now does nothing, the keypad stopped lighting up, or the gate only opens when the wind blows a certain direction. Sometimes it’s a dead battery in the remote. Sometimes it’s a blown fuse on the board. And sometimes the weather got to it.

Which BFT Models This Applies To

BFT has been building gate automation since the 1980s, and over the years they’ve produced a long line of swing and slide gate operators: the BFT Deimos, Phobos, Ares, Sub, and Rigel series, along with older models like the Corali and Botticelli. The access control side follows suit. If your gate has a BFT operator, the receiver is almost always a plug-in module or an integrated radio card, and the keypads and readers tie into a dedicated terminal block on the control board. The compatibility gotcha is this: BFT switched radio frequencies over the years, and a receiver for a 2005-era Deimos BT will not always talk to a 2018 Phobos UL. The receiver frequency and rolling-code protocol are stamped on the module itself, usually on a small white label. We match by that label, not by guesswork.

One important note: Ironworks Gate Co. is an independent service provider. We are not affiliated with BFT directly. We work on their equipment every week, and we source both OEM and quality aftermarket parts. For BFT specifically, we recommend OEM on control boards and receivers, because the rolling-code encryption and the board’s terminal layout are tightly matched to the operator. For keypads, a weather-rated aftermarket unit with the same wiring scheme works well and often saves you $60 to $100. We’ll show you both options and the price difference before any work starts.

Signs Your BFT Access Control Installation Is Failing

  • Remote works only from five feet away. The receiver’s antenna connection has corroded or the radio card’s sensitivity has degraded. In McKinney’s summer heat and occasional ice, we see antenna wires oxidize at the terminal block more than anything else.
  • Keypad accepts the code but nothing happens. The keypad is sending signal, but the relay on the control board or the wiring between the keypad and the board has failed. This is usually a board-level issue, not a keypad issue.
  • Gate opens on its own at random times. A failing receiver can pick up stray radio interference from garage door openers, HOA gate remotes, or even certain LED fixtures. It’s not haunted. It’s radio noise meeting a receiver that’s lost its filtering.
  • New remote won’t program. BFT remotes are coded to the receiver, and if the receiver’s memory is full or the learn button is damaged, the remote won’t pair. We see this after power surges from Texas thunderstorms.
  • Intermittent operation, worse after rain. Water intrusion at the keypad or a cracked receiver housing lets moisture in, and the board shorts out intermittently. It’ll work on a dry Tuesday and quit on a wet Friday.

Replacement Cost & What’s Included

In McKinney, a BFT access control installation runs from $450 at the low end for a single receiver swap to $1,200 for a full keypad, receiver, and wiring refresh. Most jobs land between $600 and $850. The range depends on three things: whether we’re replacing one component or several, whether the existing wiring is salvageable or needs a new run, and whether you want OEM BFT parts or a quality aftermarket equivalent. You get the line-item breakdown before we start, and you approve that number before a single screw comes out. There is no surprise on the invoice. Every access control job we complete in McKinney is protected by our written 90-Day Done Right Promise. If something isn’t right, we come back and make it right. No paperwork, no arguing.

DIY or Call Us?

You can safely check a few things yourself: fresh battery in the remote, no obvious physical damage to the keypad, power going to the operator. Past that, BFT access control work means working inside a live control board with 24-volt wiring and sensitive electronics. One crossed wire or one shorted terminal can take out the receiver and the control board together, turning a $450 repair into a $900 one. We’ve also had calls from homeowners who spent a weekend trying to wire a universal keypad into a BFT board and ended up with a gate that only opened when the keypad was unplugged. If you’re not certain, make the call. It’s cheaper than the rework. Reach Victor Salinas and the team directly at (430) 226-4507.
